TCAT is an initiative that offers quality client based training in Traveller culture. It is delivered by Travellers who are experienced trainers and have completed a professional course in TCAT training delivery. It is coordinated by a steering group comprising of all Traveller led organisations in Cork city and county as well as representatives from the HSE. The training is part of an overall interagency strategy to support better service provision for Travellers.
We recommend that any customer-facing role or public service agency/organisaitn should complete TCAT and ensure it is refreshed regularly as part of continual professional development (CPD). It is regularly reported to TVG that settled Irish people know more about international cultures and ethnic minorities than they do about Traveller heritage and culture.
